Hey guys!
A few weeks ago, only hours after graduation Alex announced that as a graduation present her dad wanted to rent a cabin near Lake St. Catherine for Alex and four friends. This was the perfect time for most of us to spend some time together before we all start college at the end of August.
After many, many text messages in a massive group text that gave my cell phone multiple seizures, we finally agreed to plan the trip the weekend of July 25-27th. It is surprisingly hard for 5 almost-college girls to have three days and two nights available at the same time. Between work, vacations, graduation parties, and college orientations we barely have any time left. The one problem with our chosen date was that Emma would arrive at the cabin late on Friday night because she was flying back from Portugal that day.
After the torture of waiting for weeks the 25th was finally here. In the morning I loaded my car with my bags that I had already packed the night before, filled up my gas tank, and went to work. After a slow and almost uneventful 7 hours of babysitting (the oldest, Kellen, was spending the day at his grand mother's house so it was just me and Ally) it was time to go. Before I left Garret (father or Kellen and Ally) checked and adjusted the air in my tires. I picked up Sarah and after a quick trip to the bank we went to Abigail's house. There we made sure both cars had a GPS system (or in my case just my phone) and the right address (always handy to have). We decided a week before to go with two cars since both Abigail and I drive relatively small cars that would not be comfy with five people and all of our luggage. Abigail's mother wishes us luck and warned us to be careful and to stay together.
We then were off to Vermont. FINALLY! :) Not even two miles into the trip Abigail and I were separated due to busy roads and annoying traffic lights. IT did not matter much since it turned out that Abigail and I were being send on two slightly different routes by our GPS systems.
After about three hours of non-stop driving Sarah and I reached Vermont and a small ten minutes later we reached Lake St. Catherine. It took another ten minutes for Abigail and Alex to get there too. Once we got found the keys and made our way into the cabin we unloaded the cars and divided up the bed rooms. We then took Abby's car to the nearest supermarket which was a Price Chopper in New York (that proves how close we were to the border).
After our quick trip to Price Chopper during which we bought waaaay too much food, Sarah cooked us an American version of Goulash which is made out of just: elbow macaroni, tomato soup, ground beef, and an onion. Surprisingly it tasted pretty good. After dinner I thought the girls how to play one of my favorite games: Poker :) We played Texas hold um while waiting for Emma. At 1 am Emma texted that her and her mom had decided to stay at a hotel for the night since it was getting super late and they still had quite a drive left. About an hour later Sarah and I were the only ones left in the game. Eventually Sarah forfeited or in other words I won! :) We got ready for bed and found out how creepy a cabin in the woods really is at night.
I will continue this in my next post!
